What is Hylenex?
At MurgaSkin Labs, we pride ourselves on using cutting-edge tools and techniques to ensure your aesthetic results are safe, natural, and tailored to you. One of the tools we keep in our toolkit is Hylenex, a hyaluronidase enzyme specifically designed to dissolve hyaluronic acid (HA)-based fillers. Whether you're looking to correct a previous treatment or need an adjustment to achieve your desired look, Hylenex is here to help. Most important thing to remember is that this is a medication, and must be used by a licensed medical provider.
When You'd Need It
There are multiple reasons why someone would come to us for a Hylenex treatment. Here are some of the most common indications for this treatment:
Lumps and Bumps
Sometimes, HA fillers can create an overfilled or lumpy appearance. Hylenex allows us to precisely dissolve excess filler, restoring balance and symmetry to your face.
Migration of Filler
HA fillers can occasionally shift from their intended location, leading to unnatural results. Hylenex helps correct this by removing the misplaced filler so we can re-treat the area properly.
Overfilling
Unfortunately, some injectors do whatever their patients pay for and could care less about the consequences. This helps bring your face back to a more natural volume level.
Revising Work
If you’re unhappy with the results from a previous provider, Hylenex can help reset the area, giving you a fresh canvas for re-treatment by our skilled injector.
Allergic Reactions
Although rare, some individuals may experience an allergic reaction or sensitivity to HA fillers. Hylenex can quickly dissolve the filler, alleviating symptoms and ensuring your safety.
Vascular Occlusion
(EMERGENCY)
This is one of the most critical uses of Hylenex. If filler inadvertently blocks a blood vessel, it can restrict blood flow and potentially damage surrounding tissues. In this rare emergency, Hylenex is administered immediately to dissolve the filler and restore circulation.
How Does It Work?
Hylenex is a specialized enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid, the main ingredient in many dermal fillers. It works quickly, often dissolving the unwanted filler within minutes. Depending on your needs, we may apply Hylenex to specific areas, using techniques that ensure precision and minimize discomfort.
What to Expect During a Hylenex Treatment
Consultation
Prior to any injections, Dr. Murgasen performs a facial assessment. Here he marks the areas he's seeing migration or any of the other above concerns that requires correction.
Procedure
Before we begin, Dr. Murgasen will numb the area needing treatment, so your experience is as painless as it can be. Then he will insert this liquid medication into the areas needing dissolving.
Follow-Up
It's important to note that some patients will require MULTIPLE rounds of dissolving. This is heavily based on which filler you had placed before (Juvederm being the most difficult to reverse). Be patient, as it took years to get to this point, it may take more than one session to correct safely.
If you’ve had fillers and feel like something’s not quite right, or if you want to learn more about how Hylenex can help refine your results, don’t hesitate to book a consultation with us today!
